The Himalayan Trust began not with a grand plan, but with a request. When Ed Hillary built the first school at Khumjung in 1961, it was in response to Sherpa communities who had asked for it — and who had offered the loan of a sacred yeti scalp as a goodwill gesture that made it possible.
